Machine Technician (shop)


 

Shop Technician Trainee – Entry Level  

 

Entry level position required full set of hand tools, including but not limited to:

•      Open ended wrenches: ¼” – 1 ¼” by 16th’s

•      3/8” drive sockets:   ¼” – 1 ¼” by 16th’s

•     ½” drive sockets:     ½” – 1 ¼” by 16th’s

(Highly suggested that array of deep well sockets be maintained for one or both of B&C)

•     6”, 8”, & 12” crescent wrenches

•      Pliers, including standard, dikes, channel locks, snap ring and needle nose.

•      Allen key set. (Suggest T-handles as well)

•     Scribe, punch and chisel, 3# hammer, ball peen hammer and a soft face hammer.

•     Tape measure.  Minimum 16’, recommend 25’

•        Assorted screwdrivers.

 

Entry level skills required:

Able to read a tape measure accurately to 1/32”, scale rule to 1/64”, and dial calipers to 0.001”.

Able to convert decimals into fractions and vice versa.

Able to read blueprints for assembly.

Proficient at assembly procedures:

•      How to line up sprockets, gears, and sheaves.

•      Correct tension for chain and belts.

•     Accurate and square drilling and tapping.

•     Proper use of fasteners (lock washers, flat washers, and grades)

•      Proficient at prepping & cataloging parts for reassembly.  (Includes sanding, blasting, painting to Intech Enterprises, Inc. standards & tagging for efficient reassembly.)

•      Proficient in disassembly.  When to use force, heat, or alternative methods.

•     Proficient in the use of hand and power tools.

•       Drills & mag drill

•       Grinders, sanders, and wire wheel abrator

•       Hones & reamers

•       Gear pullers

•       Taps, dies, threaded files, and easy outs

•       Hydraulic press and arbors

Must be organized and systematic in procedures (ie. How to prioritize work)

Able to independently assemble, disassemble, prep, and organize own work load.

Show imitative in learning new skills and be willing to train.

Willing to practice new skills.

Able to do light burning.

Proficient with shop equipment:

•      Drill press

•      Belt sander

•     Band saw

•     Hydraulic press

Able to do light welding.

 

Level 1 Shop Technician   

 

100% proficient at all the trainee level skills.

Able to read blueprints for layouts of drillings.

Can accurately layout.

Proficient at burnouts (oxy-acetylene) with minimal cleanup.

Proficient at welding (mig and stick) vertical and horizontal with minimal cleanup.

Independent decision making.

Light machinist skills (keyways, broaching, light boring, and slotting).

Hydraulic, pneumatic, assembly and parts identification.

Light fabrication (under direction).

Light gearbox repair (inspection, seal replacement, etc.).

 

Level 2 Shop Technician   

 

100% proficiency at trainee level & level 1.

Proficient at burnouts (oxy-acetylene) with no cleanup.

Proficient at welding (mig & stick) vertical and horizontal with no cleanup.

Proficient at independent layout and fabrication.

Hydraulics: rebuild cylinders, valves with the ability to identify parts.

Read and interpret hydraulic schematics.

Pneumatics: rebuild cylinders, valves with the ability to identify parts.

Understand fluid power circuitry and how the components work together to act as a unit.

Proficiency at identifying and repairing all aspects of a gear reducer.

Proficiency at pulling wire runs and terminates correctly from an electrical schematic.

Light electrical: pulling wire runs with some bending of conduit.

Proficient in leadership skills

 

Level 3 Shop Technician   

 

100% proficiency at Trainee Level, Level 1, and Level 2

Must own calipers 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, and micrometers and corresponding bore gauges.

Proficiency at boring, turning, facing, broaching, keyways, slots, and fly cutting.

Know when to incline mill and cline mill.  (Example of general knowledge)

Have multimeter, wire strippers, and sta-con pliers

Able to read electrical schematics.

Proficiency at testing motors, coils, switches, and other electrical devices.

Familiar with basic electrical circuitry.

Proficiency at bending conduit and planning complete electrical runs.

Able to trouble shoot electrical systems (circuitry).

Able to trouble shoot hydraulic and pneumatic circuits.

Able to bend and flare hydraulic tubing.

Able to plan and execute complete hydraulic tubing and hose runs over an entire system.

Have some start-up abilities.

Proficient in leadership skills

 

Level 4 Shop Technician     

  

100% proficiency at Trainee Level, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.

Able to independently produce a turn-key machine including but not limited to:

•      Layout, design, and fabrication including documentation.

•      Hydraulics (layout, trouble shooting, and assembly)

•     Pneumatics (layout, trouble shooting, and assembly)

•     Electrical (layout, trouble shooting, and wiring)

•      Programming (able to communicate and wire programs for PLC), start-up, and debugging.

All aspects of machine works including threading, etc.


 

Field Service Technician or Engineer

 

Summary: Plans and coordinates activities concerned with installing equipment, investigating and resolving customer reports of technical problems with equipment, and eliminating future operational or service difficulties by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Installs new or modified equipment at customer's facility to ensure full functionality according to specifications.

 

Reviews performance reports and documentation from customers and field representatives, and inspects malfunctioning or damaged product to determine nature and scope of problem.

 

Analyzes review and inspection findings to determine source of problem, and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action.

 

Coordinates problem resolution with engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs.

 

Provides on-site technical assistance to help troubleshoot and repair equipment.

 

Maintains records of performance reports.

 

Analyzes reports of technical problems to determine trends affecting future design, production, service, and maintenance processes, and recommends modifications to eliminate future problems.

 

Develops service handbooks and bulletins based on field investigations, engineering changes, and overall knowledge of product.

 

Provides a communication link between the customer and the company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer.

 

Develops and conducts training on the safe operations of the equipment and demonstrates skills to trainees, including both team members and customers.

 

Education and/or Experience                                                  

 

Two or more years of college with Electrical Engineering (EE) degree, or Technical degree, or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills                                              

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Panel builder 32, RS Logix, Panelmate, Cuttler Hammer Development software; Microsoft Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, Netscape Navigator Internet software; Microsoft Project 2000 Project Management software; Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

 

PLC Controls certificate from Clark Community College or equivalent, Fluid Dynamics, certified 7018 welding, Private Pilot Certificate (PPL)

 

Other Skills and Abilities                                            

 

Home construction, ability to read and interpret Cadd drawings, able to troubleshoot complex electrical diagrams,
